AES® Ball Valves are available in an all welded body design based on performance and many years of experience. In addition, our welding know-how in manufacturing using certified welding techniques and newly developed welding methods eliminates distortion during welding. This assures perfect sealing without damage to sealing caused by traditional welding methods.

AES® Ball valves are manufactured as a pipeline valve in accordance with API-6D specification. Our factories are located world wide and approved to API-6D and API-6A. Structures and Functions of AES® Ball Valves

Seat Seal

Seat design assures dead-tight independent sealing simultaneously upstream and downstream. When the ball is in the closed position, scaling is performed by both a primary metal to metal seal and a secondary seal. The inner lip of the metal seal and seat insert ride on the mirror-finished surface of the plated ball. The ball is of a fixed type to rotate about the axis of a trunnion. The seats floating both upstream and downstream are designed to seal by being forced by spring loaded power and fluid pressure tightly against the ball. This results in upstream and downstream bubble-tight seal which functions by spring load power under extremely low pressure differential as well.
Seats are free to move slightly along the longitudinal axis of the valves. The line pressure behind upstream seat ring supplements the seat spring load to force the upstream seal tightly against the ball. The downstream seat also utilizes line pressure (or valve body pressure) and a spring-load supplement to force downstream seat tightly against the ball. This is called o Piston Effect Principle. This results in upstream and downstream bubble-tight seals which function independently under all pressure conditions.

Upstream pressure (P1) is higher than cavity pressure (P2) and so seat ring is forced against the ball by the power of P1X1 which is multiplicator of upstream pressure Px by area differential X between A1 and A2.

Downstream seat
Contrary to upstream, body pressure P2 is higher than downstream pressure P0. The seat ring is forced against the ball by the power of PX and the spring pressure PX is multiplicator of the body pressure P2 by area differential X created by seal transfer between the seat ring and the body.

Stem Construction

The stem is separate from the ball and is positioned to the upper ball trunnion by hardened steel pins. Bearing blocks are located on the upper and lower ball trunnions which absorb all the pressure load on the ball. The stem is a free member and carries no side thrust. Absence of this side load and friction drag on the stem assures lower operating torque and long trouble-free service.

Stem Seals

The stem is sealed by means of two seals. If leakage should ever occur through both stem seals, the valve would be in the closed position and the body pressure would bleed off to atmosphere. Then it is possible to remove the mounting adoption for replacement of both primary and secondary seals.

Low Operating Torque

The ball operates on a fixed axis established by bearing blocks which locate on the upper and lower ball trunnions. The ball trunnion revolves in an impregnated metal sleeve bearings which does not require lubrication. The feature of this bearing is a reduced friction with increased loads. This feature combines to assure lower operating torque, fast operation and the optimum resolution of input energy.

Block and Bleed

Ball Valves are ideally suited for services requiring "block and bleed". The bubble-tight seal design, independent upstream and downstream, permits venting and draining of line fluids from the body cavity, (when the valve is in the closed position). For this purpose, the venting mechanism plug is positioned at the lower part of the body. Small body cavities permit rapid drainage and a perfect seal can be achieved. Bubble-tight seal is achieved without sealant (seal agent) which completely eliminates product contamination.

Extended Stem Size
The stem can be extended according to the customer's requirement. There are no specific restrictions for the length of the extend stem, however the requirements must be specified before signing the order.

Transit Pipe
If the customer needs transit pipe, we can provide the following.
Steel sleeve pipe, welded on the basic material of the valve before finishing, installed with the ball valve. The length can be to 200 mm or more.
As a part of the pipeline, the pressure grade and the specification of the sleeve pipe is equal to that of the pipeline. If is welded on the valve, after the valve is produced and inspected, according to the standard. No size restriction.

We can supply accessories according to the customer requirement. For example, discharge pipe, bleed port, assistant grease injecting pipe, and more.



Ball Valve Features and Benefits
Unique Body Designs
The AES® ball valve body is compact and streamlined for maximum strength and minimum weight. Forged steel can be used to assure uniform fine grain structure and toughness, although cast steel is also available, along with plate in some designs.

The bodies provide maximum resistance to pressure and pipeline stresses. A compact design also eliminates body flanges to reduce overall size and leak paths. This lightweight design allows for significant savings in overall structural reinforcement costs, particularly in offshore platforms. The "stand alone" design means that no extra supports are needed. In addition, the shape creates easier installation, coating and wrapping procedures than standard bolted body ball valve designs.

Trunnion Mounting
Regardless of size or pressure rating, AES® ball valves can be trunnion-mounted. High strength forged stems are located in impregnated stainless steel bearings for smooth, accurate operations. Trunnion mounted stems absorb the thrust from line pressure, preventing excess friction between the ball and seats, so even at full rated working pressure, operating torque stays low.

Stem Seals
AES® Ball valves incorporate delta and lip seals of low friction, non-deteriorating material that is not subject to rapid decompression explosion in the upper stem area. Valve stem sizes 2" and larger have a provision for the injection of sealant to establish a secondary seal.

Fire Tested to Recognized Standards
AES® Ball valves have been fire-tested and can be supplied according to API 6FA and API 607. Fire test programs are usually ongoing. If industry standards change or customer requirements are different from above, call your AES® valve representative for price and delivery.

Automatic Internal Relief of Body Pressure
Relief of excess body cavity pressure is automatic, avoiding dangerous pressure build-up. Any pressure exceeding downstream line pressure by approximately 200 psi downstream allows the pressure to escape into the pipeline.

Secondary Seat Seal
The secondary seat seal sealant injection system can provide a fast, simple way of restoring tight shut-off if any foreign object from end users installation or service should damage the sealing surfaces. The injection system can also be used for routine flushing of the seat ring area in services where this may be required or when ordered with this function.

AES® VALVES ARE ALSO AVAILABLE IN metal seated design. and are suitable for applications with elevated temperatures or highly abrasive conditions.
The valves are typically provided with a hard chrome plated 316SS or electro-less nickel plated hall and Hard Faced or Alloy 6 seats.
The valves are manufactured to Class V shut off. Each valve is designed for each specific application and has a reasonable delivery time.
All valves can be outfitted with either an electric, pneumatic, or hydraulic actuator.
Special actuator mounting is designed for high temperature valves, which both isolates and dissipates the process heat that may otherwise cause damage to the actuator.

Materials
Materials used in ball valve construction are broadly equivalent at IES manufacturing plants world wide. However, the availability of local supplies, the need to conform to national standards and to offer various trims may necessitate some variations. In corrosive applications, valve trims can be offered using various types of alloys and stainless steels.
